A highly reliable UPS infrastructure protecting 3,000 years of heritage
The project in a glance
Located on the Giza Plateau, close to the Pyramids, the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) is the world's largest archaeological collection dedicated to a single civilisation. Spanning 500,000m² and home to more than 100,000 artefacts – including the entire Tutankhamun collection – the GEM is a world-class cultural project, designed to the highest international standards.
Working alongside local equipment supplier, Egymatec, Socomec was selected to secure the power supply for the museum's critical systems using UPS solutions that comply with the project's technical and regulatory requirements. Eng. Amr El Kady, owner and GM of Egymatec alongside Ahmed Ramadan, Sector Sales Manager at Egymatec, were responsible for providing the technical assistance necessary for product approval and ensuring that Socomec UPS solutions were fully compliant with the customer's technical and financial requirements.
"From my point of view, the importance of the project lies in its complexity, its long-term vision and the essential role that a reliable infrastructure plays in the preservation, exhibition and operation of priceless cultural assets."
Ahmed Ramadan, Sector Sales Manager, Egymatec
According to Ahmed Ramadan, the main challenge was to guarantee a perfectly continuous power supply for all of the museum's critical systems, including conservation and environmental control devices, security equipment, sensitive technical infrastructure and exhibition spaces.
In an environment with such exacting requirements, even the slightest power interruption could compromise the security, operation and preservation of the heritage.
"Socomec systems offer advanced monitoring, efficient energy management and full compliance with international standards, making them ideally suited to a complex and strategic project such as the Grand Egyptian Museum."
Ahmed Ramadan, Sector Sales Manager, Egymatec
Socomec’s response to these challenges is to offer solutions that guarantee a high level of redundancy and reliability, ensuring continuity of service as a result. Its systems effectively protect sensitive loads against electrical disturbances and integrate seamlessly into complex infrastructures.
The approach is part of a long-term vision, with a strong commitment to sustainable performance and energy efficiency.
"Contributing alongside Socomec to secure the power supply of the world's largest museum is a great source of pride. This project reflects the confidence placed in our technical expertise and our commitment to supporting critical infrastructure that’s dedicated to preserving cultural heritage for future generations."
Ahmed Ramadan, Sector Sales Manager, Egymatec
The Grand Egyptian Museum now benefits from a robust, reliable power continuity infrastructure that is suited to a world-class cultural site.
"Socomec was selected as the UPS supplier because of its solid reputation for reliability, high-quality engineering and proven experience in supporting large-scale, critical projects."
