Paris, June 19, 2025 – Socomec, a family-owned multinational and a leading player in the field of low-voltage electrical network control and safety products, announces the acquisition of PowerUp, one of the main providers of software solutions designed to protect, optimize, and increase the profitability of batteries. The objective: to provide AI-powered battery analytics solutions to its customers in the energy, commercial, and industrial sectors.
This partnership will enable customers to benefit from advanced analytics capabilities designed to enhance the safety, performance, and lifespan of lithium-ion batteries used in the energy storage and UPS markets.
A platform to ensure battery safety, reliability, and durability
Built on the cloud, PowerUp’s platform combines artificial intelligence with decades of battery research to proactively detect potential safety issues, optimize operational performance, and extend the lifespan of battery energy storage systems (BESS). This helps reduce risks for BESS project stakeholders while maximizing return on investment.
Beyond the standard safety measures of a battery management system (BMS), Socomec’s customers benefit from additional protection thanks to PowerUp’s patented algorithms. These algorithms enable BESS owners to detect early signs of battery degradation and identify anomalies months before they could lead to safety incidents. This represents a significant improvement over industry standards, which typically detect issues only a few days or hours before an incident occurs. As a result, asset managers have the time they need to protect their infrastructure — and their revenue.
Users also gain valuable insights into the optimal operating conditions and parameters for their BESS. By leveraging this battery science, they can extend the lifespan of their assets by several years and significantly increase their return on investment when preventive actions are taken at an early stage.
Ultra-high precision analytics
PowerUp’s analytics deliver industry-leading precision when it comes to assessing the State of Health (SoH) and State of Charge (SoC) of batteries, both at the module and rack levels. This information helps enhance battery performance across various energy transition applications, including seamless integration of renewable energy, optimization of electric vehicle charging infrastructure, and improved microgrid stability, among others.
By combining physical modeling with AI, PowerUp’s approach achieves an accuracy of ±2% on critical indicators such as SoH and, ultimately, on the estimated lifespan of a battery for its intended use. This facilitates advanced maintenance planning to reduce downtime and operating costs. Without this level of accuracy, deviations of more than 10% are common in practice, resulting in inaccurate reporting, potential financial losses, and even regulatory penalties for BESS asset owners.
“In a sector where fierce competition on battery prices can sometimes come at the expense of quality, this acquisition stands out through the integration of AI-powered analytics specifically designed to reduce safety risks and improve performance for Socomec’s customers,” says Jean-Marc Guillou, Technical Director of Energy Storage Systems at Socomec. “This approach strengthens our market position and fosters long-term value creation. By providing smarter, data-driven insights in operation, we aim to build lasting relationships with our customers through innovative, high value-added services.”
“There are strong synergies between PowerUp and Socomec through our service offerings for utility, commercial, and industrial customers. These synergies will generate high-value strategies for both companies and our respective customer bases,” adds Philippe de La Fortelle, Chief Revenue Officer at PowerUp. “Joining the Socomec Group marks an exciting milestone in PowerUp’s journey, allowing us to apply our battery expertise across Socomec’s various business sectors — ultimately enhancing performance, efficiency, and safety for our customers.”
The battery analytics solution is currently being piloted in pre-commercial projects with several Socomec customers and will be available to all Socomec clients by January 2026.
Meanwhile, PowerUp will continue to directly market its Battery Insight® solution in its core markets in France and internationally to support the optimization of large-scale energy storage systems and the management of electric vehicle fleets.
